NICE published TA1152 on 7 May 2026, recommending semaglutide (Wegovy) for reducing the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with established cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity (BMI ≥27 kg/m²).1
The recommendation covers adults who have had a heart attack, stroke, or symptomatic peripheral arterial disease. It is to be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, at a maintenance dose of 2.4 mg weekly. A commercial access agreement is in place via the NHS CAP Portal. Semaglutide for weight management (TA875) has a Blueteq form, is on the HCD system in England and is delivered through specialist weight management services with defined eligibility criteria. Nevertheless, TA1152 because of volume and high cost to the NHS overall, is worth mentioning here.
NHS Integrated Care Boards in England are legally required to make semaglutide available to eligible patients within 90 days of final publication, meaning most eligible patients could expect access from late summer 2026. In Wales, the equivalent obligation is 60 days.2
